A more significant puff effect than Xpandaprint. Try Permaset puff paste for value and that extra puff effect. Great for raised effects - stamp, let dry, puff up with a heat gun, paint!

Permaset Aqua Fabric Paints

Permaset does not change the handle of the fabric, leaving your creations as soft as they started. To set the paint, allow to dry then simply use an iron to heat set. Australian made fabric paint perfect for creating that unique fabric for quilting or embroidery. Permaset is heat set, non toxic and water based.

Please note that your monitor will alter the appearance of these colours.

Using Permaset Fabric Paint

Permset Fabric paint is water based so cleans up easily using water. They leave the fabric feeeling soft unlike acrylic paint mixed with textile mediums. Once heat set, either by an iron or by using your dryer, the fabric is then washable – a must for quilts etc that are going to be used.

Now every single range of paints has its particular idiosyncrasies. If you’ve done colour theory then you know typically you would buy the 2 yellows (gold, lemon), the 2 blues (turquoise, mid blue) and the two reds (typically an orange red and a blue red). From this basic range you can then generally mix any colour that you want. However my experience with Permaset is that doesn’t hold true for its colours. The basic range from Permaset that I would recommend is:

Blue B, Mid Red, Mid Yellow, Yellow R, Green B

Now Mid Red + Yellow R = Scarlet (the orange red)
Blue B + Green B = Turquoise
Green B + Yellow R = Khakis and other leaf greens

However none of these colours will give you a rich purple or a hot pink. Instead you’ll need to supplement the set with Rose and Purple to get the lovely blue purples or cherry red purples. The purple or pink that can be mixed with the original basic set will only be a dusty pink or purple.

I often use Permaset for painting as it is Australian made and can be purchased in larger quantities (up to 1 kg buckets!) which makes it a very cost effective fabric paint compared to others available. Once you know what colours to concentrate on, you too can get the full range of colours without having to buy every single colour. Add white and black to your palette and all the shades and tones are available.

Overall I love the rich colours you can achieve with these paints. Once dry heat set with an iron or throw the cloth into the dryer on the highest setting the cloth can take. The results will speak for themselves - rich vibrant colour that doesn't make the fabric stiff as a board!
