Making Cast Paper Motifs

Step 1 - Gather all your supplies: dissolvable paper, stamp or textured surface to cast from, a stiff paint brush, a roller and some water.

Stamp ready to have a cast made   Place paper over stamp, cut to size

Step 2 - Cut paper to size of stamp and place on top.

Stamp ready to have a cast made   Gently roll paper into stamp to finish

Step 3 - Use the paint brush dipped in water to gently push the paper into the stamp's textured surface. When thoroughly damp place the second piece over and repeat wetting and pushing into the surface. Continue for 3 -5 layers of paper depending how textured the surface is.

Step 4 - Use a roller to gently push the paper mush into the textured surface of the stamp. Don't push too hard otherwise you'll just push all the mush to one side. If this happens just pick it up in your hands and place on to of the stamp again.

Step 5 - Leave to dry thoroughly.

Step 6 - Gently remove dry papercast from the stamp. The papercast is now ready to paint. Try using a plain colour for the base and a metallic over the textural areas using a fan brush to dry brush the paint on.
