Transfer (disperse) dyes are for acrylic, polyester and ployester blends and elastic. These dyes differ from other dyes as the common method of use is by painting the dye onto paper and once dry ironing onto fabric, thus transferring the colour. The colour of the liquid dye is often very different to the transferred colour so some experimentation and play is needed to become familiar with this kind of dye. They can be used on fine cotton, wool and linen but the results are not as clear.

For transfer painting I use 100mls of hot water to one packet of dye. I don't put the "colour intensifier" additive in. The dye mixture can then be watered down for varying strengths of colour. A stronger mix is also easier to transfer when using an iron rather than an ironing press or heat press.
