Catalogue : Dyes : Jacquard's iDye Range

Prices on this site are all in Australian Dollars. The first price is GST inclusive for our Australian customers. The second price in brackets, e.g. ($29.95), is the GST exclusive price for international customers.

Jacquard's iDye range is the great all rounder. To use with natural fibres such as linen and cotton just add salt, for wool just add vinegar. Dyeing fabric in a washing machine has never been easier. iDye comes in a packet that dissolves in water which means there is no handling of messy dye powders. Just throw the dye packet in, add salt and run through the wash cycle. It is the ultimate easy way to get gorgeous colour!

The iDye packets come in 14 gram packages and will dye 2 to 3 pounds of fabric (1 – 1.3 kg of fabric). iDye is a direct dye, not a Procion MX dye. iDye Poly is a disperse dye.

Dyeing Instructions from Jacquard

Which Dye?
for 100% natural fabrics & nylon use iDye
for 100% polyester use iDye Poly
for polyester blends use iDye and the corresponding color of iDye Poly (see end of text)

For best results:
Prewash garment to remove any sizings, softeners or finishes.
Use the stove top method for dark colors (black, brown or olive) or very intense colors (bright yellow, reds).
Use constant agitation for uniform color.
Note: utensils and pot for dyeing should not be used for food.

Top load washing machine method:
Fill washing machine with just enough water for the fabric to move freely.
Add the iDye soluble dye. Agitate for 30 seconds to dissolve packet.
Add one cup (237 ml.) of salt for cotton, linen and rayon. Add 1/3 cup (78 ml.) of white vinegar for silk and wool.
Add pre-wetted fabric.
Extend the dyeing time by resetting the wash cycle before the rinse cycle begins.
The longer the dyeing time, the darker the color and better the fixation.
Wash the garment with a mild detergent and dry.

Front load washing machine method:
Follow top load method, except add everything to beginning of cycle.

Stove top method:
Fill a stainless steel or enamel pot with just enough hot water for the fabric to move freely. Turn on medium to high heat.
Add the iDye soluble dye packet to water and stir.
Add pre-wet garments and raise temperature to a simmer.
Add one cup (237 ml.)of salt for cotton, linen and rayon. Add 1/3 cup (78 ml.) of white vinegar for silk and wool. Avoid pouring directly onto fabric.
Maintain temperature and stir frequently for 1/2 hour.
Wash the garment with a mild detergent and dry.

For polyester blends:
Choose an iDye Poly color closest to the iDye color you are dyeing and add both packets to dye bath.
Follow stove top method. Allow dye mixture to come to a simmer for 1/2 to 1 hour.
